It happened whilst we were on holiday two years ago in Lagos, Portugal. I had no idea it was going to happen. We went for a walk before dinner along the beach looking for a spot take take some pictures, this isn’t unusual for us as I’m all about getting the photo opportunities.
We got to the end of the beach where there was a rocky section to mark the harbour edge – the aim was to walk across this to the lighthouse at the end. I had worn very impractical shoes so ended up complaining half way and asking to stop. Whilst I was faffing trying to get a couple of pictures he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I cried, I laughed, I told him he was joking before finally saying yes. It was just us two looking out on the sea and it was perfect.
We got married at Broadoaks Country House, Troutbeck in Windermere on February 6th, 2020 and it was perfect. It was actually the first venue we saw and fell in love. The location was stunning and we liked the fact everything was all in one place, making it easier. Our colour scheme was purple and grey with a vintage feel to match the dress. We also had hints of Marvel and Harry Potter as unique touches for us. Everything was made with us in mind with lots of personal touches from my Grandma making our cake to my Mum creating the flowers and centrepieces. We wanted it to be a relaxed fun environment that showed our personalities throughout.
I absolutely loved wedding dress shopping! I mean who doesn’t want to feel like a princess for a couple of hours. I had a very particular style in my head but I made sure I tried on everything just to make sure and I was right in the style I wanted and suited me. It did seem like it was a real thing until I went to Emma Louise Bridal.
I saw my dress on Pinterest and fell in love. I found out it was a Stella York design of her new collection so I researched trunk shows and that’s where Emma Louise Bridal came in. At my appointment I showed Amber the dress and she picked out a few others of the style I asked to try as well. It wasn’t an immediate yes but a “I think so I need to think about it”. I scheduled another appointment a few months later and it was all I could think about, as soon as I put it back on it I knew it was ‘The One’.
Really really amazing. From the get go I was made to feel welcome and that they truly wanted to help me find ‘The One’. From the moment I stepped in the door to leaving with my dress the whole process was faultless. A truly lovely experience with friendly staff and a gorgeous shop to match.
The whole thing was incredible, it was honestly the best day of my life. I know every bride says that but it’s true. I loved the fact that we had everyone we loved celebrating with us and that it was a fun wedding. No stress, no extravagance just us, family & friends enjoying the day. My Dad’s speech was a highlight as I wasn’t sure how it was going to go but it was amazing and made me cry. Also, an added bonus Elliot (my husband) didn’t drop me on our lift in the first dance ha!
Well we were meant to be going to Croatia for 2 weeks in June BUT sadly that was cancelled due to Covid-19. However we are planning to go next year and celebrate it then instead.
Don’t worry what anyone else thinks or says. It is your wedding day, do what you want to make your day special. Enjoy the process it shouldn’t be a stressful experience. And remember at the end of the day you are doing this because you want to spend the rest of your lives together and share this day with your loved ones. That’s all that matters.
