The Queen’s Jubilee

The Queen’s Jubilee

We’re celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee, as her 70th year of service to this country, by taking a look back over her most esteemed outfits throughout her lifetime.

Queen Elizabeth II has always been known for her brightly coloured rainbow wardrobe, and loves to celebrate the fashion of British designers and couturiers. It’s a known secret that the Queen favours these uplifting outfits, with a splash of colour in order to ensure that the crowds can see her at every event.

Her Majesties dressers and designers never fail to ensure that she looks just right, from each carefully selected outfit down to the Queen’s staple Launder handbags, and the same Anello & Davide heels she had worn for 50 years, the Queen is known to be a style icon.

Take a look at a gorgeous selection of the Queen’s wardrobe throughout the years below:

1947 – Queen Elizabeth II pictured in her wedding dress. Designed by Norman Hartnell, her majesties silk duchesse wedding gown, which she paid for using ration tokens as other brides in her country did in the wake of WWII. The dress featured intricate pearl and crystal embroidery, as well as a dramatic 13ft long train!

1954 – Pictured here on the balcony of the Government House in Melbourne as the Queen embarks on her royal duties with her tour of Australia. Wearing a gorgeous emerald velvet pleated gown, classic white gloves and completed with a duel set of pearls.

1959Here we have a print portrait of Queen Elizabeth II in 1959 before the start of her U.S tour, wearing a stunning satin pastel pink gown embellished with intricate red lace embroidery and a Vladimir tiara.

1975 – Here we have the Queen during a welcome ceremony at temple in Kyoto during the royal visit to Japan, Queen Elizabeth wearing an elegant pink suit paired with her classic Launder handbag and Anello & Davide heels.

1983 – Here we have Queen Elizabeth II and Nancy Reagan arriving for a concert during an official Tour of the USA, wearing a floral embroidered gown paired with classic long white gloves.

2006 – Here we have a total change for the Queen’s usual attire, arriving at the House of Lords for the State Opening of Parliament in London, with a chic embellished white gown, white fur stole and Diamond Diadem crown. This eye-catching outfit was a real standout for Her Majesty.

2011 – For Kate and William’s wedding the Queen   looked so summery in a lovely lemon yellow dress and tailored coat at the wedding of her grandson. She also wore a co-ordinating hat with silk roses and apricot coloured leaves, by one of her favourite designers, Angela Kelly.

2016 – The Queen is known for her attendance at the  Royal Ascot event each year, with her famous love for horses! Here she’s spotted wearing a bright coral pink ensemble, with a soft pearl necklace and matching broach.

2020 – Although Princess Beatrice’s wedding was a private affair, her Grandmother was very much included. For her intimate lockdown wedding, the Queen wore mint green coat and colour coordinated hat, which featured red and pink flower adornments.

It’s not just Queen Elizabeth’s outfits that are iconic, it’s also her jewellery and accessories that complete the look! Queen Elizabeth often uses her brooches to convey a message to the world, and many hold a special meaning.

First pictured here as newlyweds in 1947, then later in 2007 as the Queen and Prince Phillip celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary in Hampshire 2007. Both times the Queen chose to wear her Chrysanthemum Brooch, a sapphire and diamond pin which was first worn while they celebrated there honeymoon together.
