Paul proposed to me during a short holiday in Prague. We went to Prague Castle and he was acting oddly all day, one minute he was enjoying the views and the next he would seem agitated. I didn’t know that it was because he was trying to find the perfect spot but large groups of tourists kept ruining it! We went for a drink afterwards just outside the castle and he proposed by putting the ring in my drink, which I nearly drank! A couple next to us from Australia overheard what he planned to do and recorded it for us without us knowing, you can see how nervous Paul is and how oblivious I am!
Our wedding was on May 4th 2019 at Hyde Bank Farm, Romiley. It is a small family run venue in a converted 17th century barn and the moment we viewed it we knew it was exactly what we wanted. I didn’t have a theme as such but I wanted bright, spring like flowers and colours.
Honestly? The idea of dress shopping terrified me, as a plus sized bride I had expectations of not being able to actually try any dresses on. I was embarrassed about the idea of trying on dresses in front of my mum and maid of honour that wouldn’t fit and having to spend hundreds of pound on something I had never tried on. At wedding fairs I asked about what sample sizes they held and was often told that they go to a size 16 but could order me a dress bigger. I was even told by one dress shop that they would put the sample on a mannequin for me to look at!
The dress I chose ended up being the opposite of what I thought I wanted. Emma was great at listening to my feedback when trying on each dress and knowing what to put me in next. I ended up choosing a Stella York dress from the Every Bride Every Body range, I loved how it enhanced my best features and I didn’t want to take it off!!
I emailed first to ask about sample sizes available and was told not to worry, that I would have plenty to try on. From the moment I met Emma I was put at ease, she asked me what kind of style I wanted, colour, material etc and offered up some really good advise about what she thought would suit my body shape. There were so many gorgeous gowns that I could try on and I actually cried, not just from finding my dream dress but also with how well I was treated and how magical the whole experience was for me. It didn’t end there, having the alterations done was also a pleasant experience, lots of laughing and completely non-judgemental.
The whole day was just perfect. I had so many friends and family that had traveled to help us celebrate and that meant the world to us. At one point Paul and I stood outside and watched our wedding through the window, seeing everyone having a great time dancing and laughing was really special.
Two days after the wedding we flew to Kenya and went on a 3 night safari and from there we had a week in Mauritius relaxing, which was perfect after all the wedding planning.
Have fun with it, try not to stress over the small things, no one will notice on the day if little things don’t go to plan.
