Verity - A lovely day at Wrightington Hotel!
My proposal story
It was on Christmas day 2020 and wed been relaxing, cooking and watching films together. When it was getting later in the day I went upstairs to get something and when I came back down and sat next to Michael, he turned to me and pulled out the ring box. I cant remember exactly what was said because I couldnt let him finish before saying yes!
Wedding style
I dont think we had a set style/theme, we just wanted to include things that we enjoy or meant something to our relationship and we chose the date because it was the weekend before the 11th anniversary of our 1st date (25/07/2012). The decorations included items that hinted at our shared interests, including Game of Thrones, Marvel/DC and Download festival. I DIYed a lot for the wedding including all the crocheted flowers & bouquets, the postbox, the ring box, the stationery and my ear cuff.
Everything was running as smoothly as possible until a couple of months before when I found out I was being made redundant a month, exactly 1 month before the wedding, then just over a week before my dad had a seizure (never happened before) so we wasnt sure if he would be out of hospital in time so things were kind of up in the air and a few things stalled. Luckily he came out after a week, on the Thursday night so we were then in hyperdrive trying to get the last few things finished in time, meaning some things were still being done around getting ready in the morning. Regardless of all the extra stress, I felt calm and relaxed while getting ready and the whole day was filled with joy and laughter!
Although there are things we wish hadnt happened on the run up to the wedding, theres nothing we would change about the day.
Shopping experience
As Im plus size and dont feel confident in most clothing shopping for my wedding dress was the only part of the planning I was worried about. As nervous as I was to try dresses on I was pleasantly surprised to find my dress at my fist appointment.
How did you choose 'The One'?
After trying many dresses on and not feeling comfortable/confident in most, as soon as I put the one on I was surprised by how comfortable it felt and when I saw myself in the mirror I felt confidence I hadnt felt for years and I felt like myself in it. When I turned to see tears in my mums eyes I knew this had to be my dress.
Tell us about your experience at Emma Louise Bridal
As nervous as I was for the appointment, Emma helped put those nerves to rest and her patience throughout the appointment was incredible (I tried quite a lot of dresses on). Because of my PTSD I keep a lot of walls up but throughout the appointment Emma made me comfortable enough to open up and feel relaxed enough to enjoy trying all the beautiful dresses on! I couldnt recommend Emma Louise Bridal enough!
What are your favourite memories from your wedding day?
Theres not really any particular memories that I like more than others from the day, I loved how calm, relaxed and happy we both felt all day and how much joy and laughter we were surrounded by all day. One of my favorite pictures from the morning is of Megan (maid of honour) holding my bouquet while Im in my own little world wrapping ribbon around it. I also love how the pure joy we both had on the day comes across in the pictures, especially as I usually dont like pictures of myself.
If you have a honeymoon planned - where are you going?
Michael went back to work for a week after the wedding and then we had a week away around Cornwall, staying in Newquay and visiting St Ives, Falmouth and Tintagel (didnt have time to visit the castle unfortunately).
Do you have any advise for other couples planning their wedding?
Focus on what you want and what will make you happy on the day. Everyone has different styles/taste so as long as your guests have somewhere to sit, food to eat and drink options then they should be enjoy the day as much as you as they are there to celebrate your love and happiness.
