Lucy - A February Wedding at Eaves Hall

Last year we had the absolute pleasure of welcoming Lucy into the boutique and helping her find her 'dream dress' - she recently tied the knot at Eaves Hall in February and now we have the pleasure of featuring her as one of our 'Real Brides' on our blog! So sit back, relax, grab a cup of tea (or a glass of wine!) and read all about Lucy's beautiful wedding day and wedding planning experience...

The Proposal

We got engaged in November 2016. The proposal took place sitting looking at the Jet d'Eau fountain on Lake Geneva, Switzerland. We had gone out for dinner and Ian suggested taking a walk by the lake but I wanted to pop back to the hotel to change my shoes as my feet were hurting. He was adamant we should go for a walk first and I reluctantly agreed but was feeling puzzled as to why he was so insistent. He didn't want me to go back to the hotel before he popped the question because he'd left me a card on my pillow that would have given the game away if I'd seen it before the proposal.

The Planning

I loved planning my wedding. I have an addiction to Pinterest and wedding magazines. I would tell other brides to be to keep a scrapbook of all their ideas, as it really helped me to narrow down what I wanted. I started seeing a pattern in the types of things I was saving in my scrapbook which helped to give me a clear vision for the day.

The Suppliers

Flowers - The Blossom Room, Wigan

When I met with Carol to discuss my flowers I felt instantly at ease. It was like she could read my mind. Everything she suggested was what I had in my head except better! My bridesmaids had stunning bouquets of pink hydrangea with long flowing ribbons. I had a mix of tulips, astilbe, ranunculus and David Austin roses also in blush shades with some ivory to complement my blush dress. She also produced an amazing top table arrangement with the same flowers that featured in my bouquet.

Room Decor - Pure Elegance

I saw Pure Elegance at a wedding fair and fell in love with their blossom trees. Donna and the team did an amazing job of decorating the venue from the softly lit ceiling drapes to the rose petal scatter down the aisle every detail was perfect. I went for champagne coloured sequin tablecloths as I am a big fan of sparkle and ivory chair drapes with alternate centrepieces of blossom trees and flower filled bell jars (a nod to my favourite film Beauty and the Beast).

Cake - Polka Pops

We decided to go for something a little different and chose a cakeball tower instead of a traditional cake. It went down a treat with guests as the cakeball was all different flavours so there was something for everyone.

Hair & Make-up - Kathryn Farrington-MUA and Fiona Longshaw Hair

Kathryn did an amazing job of my make up, making me feel like myself but the very best version of me. She came up with a look that was bridal but included a bit of my signature sparkle.

Fiona stepped in at the last minute to do my hair when my previous hairdresser had to cancel. This was the most stressful part of the planning trying to find a replacement hairdresser with just over a week until the wedding but luckily Fiona was available and she did a fantastic job. I  chose to wear my hair up, styled with a gorgeous Ivory & Co hair vine that I got from Emma Louise Bridal.

Photographer - Ashton Photography

Steve and Steph did a brilliant job of our photos. They understood that we wanted a candid approach with very few posed shots.

The big day

I know every bride says it but our day really was perfect. We had great weather for February, especially given the week after was heavy snow which would have caused all kinds of issues! The venue staff were excellent and all of our suppliers did an amazing job. Having an exclusive use venue meant we could really personalise our wedding and seeing all of the little details and things we had planned come together was lovely.

My experience finding 'The One'

I had previously had two appointments at other stores and had come away feeling a bit flat and disappointed as the experience hadn't been particularly positive. I was nervous before my appointment at Emma Louise Bridal as I was starting to run out of time to find a dress and felt like I was going to end up settling just to ensure I had something. The experience at Emma Louise Bridal was entirely different. I was instantly put at ease and felt like I was in the right place! I was encouraged to take my time and try a few different gowns. I ended up trying my beautiful Allure gown at the end and I fell in love. The colour was perfect and it had just the right amount of sparkle.
