Joanne - An elegant, simple wedding!
18th November 2022
My proposal story
Steve actually proposed to me twice on two different dates.
The first time was 27 Dec 2018 at the top of Rivington Pike. Little did he know at the time, it is where I hold strong memories from my childhood with grandparents that arent here anymore. I wasnt expecting a proposal as wed only been together 9 months. It was just him & me at the top of the pike, and it was a very foggy day so we couldnt even see the views. He gave me a massive hug & said you know how you ask would I marry you, well will you marry me & pulled out a ring from nowhere! I said no as in a shocked way, but of course I was going to say yes & I did.
For months I teased him about that he actually didnt do it correctly, as didnt go down on one knee. Then during lockdown & what should have been our first planned wedding day, 11 July 2020, we had a little gathering in the garden & all of a sudden the music got turned down. He then said my name & I turned around, there he was down on one knee with another ring asking me to marry him! Yet again I said yes. Both occasions were very special in different ways, as we were on our own for the first and then the second was with my daughters & family watching on. We had to cancel our planned second wedding date, however I didnt get a proposal on that occasion.
Wedding style
We just kept it simple, about us & all of our guests having a good time. The wedding was on Saturday 9th July 2022, the ceremony was held at my local Parish St Matthews Church and then the reception at Hotel Football.
Shopping experience
Like my engagements I had two dresses. The first dress was from a local boutique off the sample rail. It was too big so I had to get it altered, but by the time Id had it done we had to change dates due to the pandemic. I massively fell out of love with it so decided to get a new one. The second dress shopping experience was wonderful & just what I needed! It was a great experience & I will always remember it.
How did you choose 'The One'?
My entourage all chose a dress for me then I picked a couple. I fell in love with 2 dresses, but I kind of knew which one I wanted. One was very slinky & fitted the other was a ball gown style. It was very unusual and I knew that not many brides would have chosen it, so thats when I knew I wanted that particular one. I felt regal in it & special, and it had the wow factor!
Tell us about your experience at Emma Louise Bridal
My experience was amazing choosing my dress at Emma Louise bridal. Amber was very attentive & gave her advice when asked about choosing the one. There was no rush or pressure. I gave her my budget amount and she then took us into a room with dresses that were within my price range. I thought this was great as no veering off & falling in love with a dress that I couldnt afford.
What are your favourite memories from your wedding day?
This is hard to choose as the whole day was great, and hard to choose a favourite. Maybe I could say getting into my dress & seeing everyones faces as I was ready to walk down the aisle in my dress & veil.
If you have a honeymoon planned - where are you going?
We initially didnt plan a honeymoon and then we decided to go on a road trip up to Scotland. However we changed our minds as couldnt guarantee the weather, so we booked a last minute holiday to Turkey and we went two days after the wedding.
Do you have any advise for other couples planning their wedding?
The only advice I would give is embrace every single moment, and try to absorb it all in. No regrets on anything after the event that you wish you had/hadnt chosen or done. It truly is the best day of your lives!
