My partner’s name is John Li. He proposed in front of the Niagara Falls in Canada, the place where I always wanted to go. I had to wait a whole 10 months to get a visa to Canada (weak passport problems haha), so it was a special proposal to me.
We had our wedding in Bali because I’m Indonesian and all of my family are there. It was a cliff-side wedding overlooking the ocean held at the Villa Latitude Bali. I guess the theme was whimsical, lots of pastel coloured flowers and decors and fairy lights for the reception area. We chose the date 08/08/2024 because if you add up all the numbers in 2024, you get an 8. Thus, 888, and the number 8 is seen as fortune in my partner’s culture (Chinese).
I’ve always knew that I didn’t want to try too many dresses or go to too many boutiques because I’m an overthinker and an indecisive person, so too many options make me doubt everything haha. So, luckily, Emma Louise is the first boutique I visited, found the one I had been eyeing, and that’s that.
Before going to the boutique, I browsed online on Emma Louise’s collection and found two gorgeous dresses that I kept on scrolling back to, Royce by Enzoani and Lilia by Calla Blanche. When I tried on both, along with several other dresses, Royce by Enzoani was the one that I kept wanting to try back on. It has a gorgeous transparent back, flattering shape and a long train.
Hattie was very nice and helpful. As soon as I showed her my references, she immediately knew what I would like. There were a couple of moments where I got really indecisive and went on to try the same dress a couple of times, but she was really patient!
My favourite moments would be the ceremony and first dance. Although it was very windy, the ocean view during the ceremony is breathtaking and we had a surprise colourful smoke during our kiss dip. As for the first dance, we kept on putting it aside during wedding planning. Until three days before the wedding day, we had nothing prepared and panicked so we hired a professional dance teacher and did a crash course in ballroom dancing. After only three days of practice, it turned out to be one of the most fun moments in the reception.
We deferred our honeymoon to Japan in 2025. We’ve been to Japan before but only for a couple of days, so this time we want to spend at least three weeks there and properly explore Japan.
Wedding planning is stressful. Although you want everything to be perfect because this is a once in your lifetime, try to enjoy the process. What’s important is the relationship that you have built with your partner before the wedding day and the relationship that you will maintain and grow after.
